Some women book a boudoir session for an anniversary. Some book it for a wedding gift. And some book it because they just signed the papers, moved into a new place, and realized they have no idea who they are anymore when nobody else is in the picture.

If that last one is you, this post is for you.

I have photographed women at every stage of a breakup, from “the ink is still wet” to “it has been three years and I am finally ready.” A boudoir session after divorce is one of my favorite sessions to photograph, because it is not about anyone else. It is about you meeting yourself again.

TL;DR:

  • A divorce boudoir session (I call it a reclaim session) is 100% about you, not a partner or an ex.
  • There is no “right” time to book. Book when you want something that is just yours.
  • You do not need to feel confident before you come in. That is what the day is for.
  • Ideas: new beginnings symbolism, your own sheets, a “single” piece of jewelry, a bold new look.
  • Your images are private. We never post anything without your written permission.

Why Women Book Boudoir After Divorce

Divorce can leave you feeling like you were living someone else’s life. Maybe you spent years shrinking to keep the peace. Maybe your body carried kids, stress, and a lot of nights you would rather forget. Maybe you just want to remember what it feels like to be looked at with kindness.

Here is what my clients usually tell me in their consult:

  • “I want to feel like ME again.”
  • “I want something that is mine and only mine.”
  • “I want to see myself the way I should have been seen all along.”
  • “I need a fresh start and I want proof of it.”

All of those are good reasons. So is “I just want hot photos.” You do not need a deep reason to book.

When Is the Right Time?

There is no timeline here. Some clients book the week the divorce is final as a way to mark the day. Others wait until the dust settles and they can enjoy every minute.

A few honest questions to ask yourself:

  • Do I want this for me, not to prove something to an ex?
  • Am I ready to have fun with it, even if I am still healing?
  • Do I have a little space in my calendar (and my heart) to enjoy the day?

If the answer is yes, you are ready. If you are not sure, book a free consult and just talk it through with us. No pressure, ever.

What a Reclaim Session Looks Like

Your session at my Chicago studio is the same full experience every client gets, built around you:

  • A consult first. We talk about what you want to feel when you see your images. Bold? Soft? Free? We plan the mood together.
  • Professional hair and makeup. Our glam team takes care of everything. You arrive with a clean face and clean hair.
  • Our client closet. Over 400 pieces in sizes XXS to 6X, so you never have to shop for this. Bring anything that means something to you.
  • Posing, start to finish. You do not need to know a single pose. I direct every angle.

The first ten minutes, most women are nervous. By the second set, they are dancing. Want to see what the whole day feels like? Here is my behind the scenes post.

Ideas for Your Divorce Boudoir Shoot

You get to make this whatever you want. A few ideas my clients love:

  • New beginnings symbolism. Wings, open windows, sunlight, a city skyline. Anything that says “I am rising.”
  • A bold look you were never “allowed” to wear. Red lipstick, a corset, the leather piece you always wanted. This is your permission slip.
  • Your ring, your choice. Some clients bring their old ring to shoot it one last time. Others wear a “self love” ring they bought for themselves.
  • The big bed, all to yourself. Spread out. Take up the whole thing.
  • Something from your new life. Your new apartment keys, a book you are reading, the jersey of a team you love.
  • Soft and quiet. Not every reclaim session is fierce. Some of the most beautiful ones are gentle, tender, and calm.

Need outfit ideas? My what to wear guide breaks down what photographs best, and these plus size boudoir poses are ones we use with every body type.

“But I Do Not Feel Confident Right Now”

Good. You do not have to.

Most women walk into my studio with their arms crossed and some version of “I am so awkward.” Confidence is not the ticket in. It is what you leave with. My job is to light you, pose you, and hype you until you see what everyone else already sees.

If you are worried about a specific part of your body, tell me in your consult. I promise I have seen it, I have photographed it, and I know exactly how to make it look incredible.

Who Are These Photos For?

You. Full stop.

Your images are private. Your gallery is only shared with you. We never post client photos without your written permission. You can keep them in a locked folder, put one on your nightstand, or print an album you look at on the hard days. You never have to show anyone.

And if one day you want to share them with someone new? That is up to you too.

FAQ

Is it weird to do a boudoir shoot after divorce?
Not at all. Divorce and fresh starts are one of the most common reasons women book boudoir. It is a way to mark a new chapter and see yourself on your own terms.

How soon after a divorce should I do boudoir?
Whenever you want something that is just for you. Some women book the week it is final, others wait a year or more. There is no wrong time.

Do I need to lose weight before my session?
No. Come as you are. Posing, lighting, and professional hair and makeup make the photos.

What should I wear for a divorce boudoir session?
Anything that makes you feel like you. Our client closet has over 400 pieces in sizes XXS to 6X, and you can bring sentimental or symbolic pieces too.

Will anyone see my photos?
Only if you choose to share them. Your gallery is private, and we never post client photos without your written permission.
